pi-Stomp v3 with rpi5
« on: September 30, 2023, 07:10:27 PM »
With the raspberry pi 5 releasing in a month, and the pi-stomp v3 (hopefully) being released later this year with rpi 4 and b type boards in mind, will there be any compatibility between the two? I am excited to build the pi stomp v3 regardless when it releases, but the processing power of the rpi5 would be amazing, especially for more cpu intensive things such as running standard nam models with room for additional effects.

It’s definitely on the radar! Just waiting for all the kernel updates to get committed to the GitHub repo so we can do test builds!

... and yeah, hardware-wise, pi-Stomp v3 was designed around the pi4, but since it appears that pi5 should have full GPIO compatibility and footprint compatibility (well, the USB and Eth ports swapped locations, but still), we're guessing it can be a drop in replacement from the hardware point of view.

Micah and I each have a pi5 on pre-order so we can be ready ASAP to make pi-Stomp work with it and take advantage of the huge horsepower advantage.

Is that Pi5 pre-order a “We’ll ship it as soon as we get it” preorder or a “Sign-up and we’ll email you when they’re in stock” pseudo-preorder?  I’m finding a bunch of the latter, but the only true preorder site has a problem with my post office official address and won’t accept my preorder.  >:(

I did see a lot of sellers with the "sign up and we'll email you" type, but I pre-ordered from Sparkfun and they have already charged my card, their confirmation calls it a "purchase" and states: "Your order has been received, and will be processed soon."

That said, given all the pent up demand from the last two years, I wouldn't be overly surprised if I get a mail eventually saying "sorry, we have refunded your purchase due to limited stock".

Yeah … SparkFun is the one that says my address isn't valid.

They got back to me.  It's a known issue.  One recommendation is to use their "External Payment" option.  They'll email me a different processing link.  We'll see how that goes.
