MIDI works on one channel only
« on: August 29, 2023, 09:48:07 AM »
OK - this is a weird one....

Any effect I put on the left channel (input/side), I can control via midi (in this case on/off).  Any effect I put on the right channel (input/side), when I assign the controller, it "registers" and displays that Midi channel #26 is not assigned.  However, the effect parameter (in this case on/off), doesn't change when I send the signal/press my controller.

I can move any effect to the left side and it works just fine.  Move it back to the right side and it doesn't.

Also, MIDI controller #70 or #71 will randomly assign when I'm trying to add.  There's no midi #70 or #71 with my setup.  I have figured out how to trick the system when using the MOD interface (I put a pedal on the board and just let it assign to that pedal, then its "used" and won't get assigned).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Is midi in aggregated or separated mode in mod-ui?

Also midi 70 and 71 are the tweak knobs. Turn them all the way off while assigning midi to avoid this. If you’re not using tweak knobs, then make sure that they’re not assigned in the default_config.yml file, aka comment them out.

They register due to a bit of chatter from fluctuations from using pots.

Separated - if I use aggregated nothing works.

I'll check the Tweak knobs.  Thanks for the heads up on that!  :)

When last did you do a fresh install? We fixed the midi aggregated mode quite recently and that should hopefully resolve your issue. Do you have a spare sd card to do a fresh install?

I do have a spare card.  Where's the link?

Also, will I need to modify all my config settings and pedal boards?

So I created a fresh install but I can't connect using the web app to pistomp.local.

The Pi Stomp is working just fine, and it shows a Wifi connection....probably the webpage.

If it's "working", as in the LCD is displaying everything, audio is passing, etc. but you can't connect the MOD-UI, try with a fresh browser tab and enter: pistomp.local/

(with the trailing slash)

If that doesn't seem to work, can you ssh to it?  If neither MOD-UI or ssh works then you can either see if a reboot fixes the wifi issue, or switch to Hotspot mode (via system menu) and avoid your router all together.

So things seem to be working, but I cannot log in using the hotspot mode.  My devices see the hot spot, but the password keeps getting rejected.

Any suggestions?

The default password for the hotspot is 'pistompwifi'

Yeah, I've tried that.  Still rejects.

Is there a way to change it?

Yes.  ssh then:
a) 'sudo raspi-config' > System Settings
OR
b) edit /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf

So I changed the password.  The hotspot can be seen on my iMac and other devices.

Still get the message "The Wi-Fi network "pistomp" requires a WPA2" password on my iMac when I try to join.  I keep getting prompted for the password 20 seconds later after I enter the password.

If I try and use another device (e.g. iPad) the message is returned "Unable to join this network"

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid here.....

Are there other parameters of the hosted.conf file that I might change that would allow me to connect to the hotspot?

Its just strange that I can see the hotspot, and know the password, but my devices won't allow me to connect.

There are tons of options:
https://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/plain/hostapd/hostapd.conf

but I can't tell ya why you can't connect.  The hotspot presented, is not specific to pi-stomp.  I'd wonder if it's a security setting on your computer not allowing connection.  Make sure you are physically close to it.

If I change that file and make an incorrect configuration, will it only impact the Hotspot or does it globally affected the WIFI?

I was thinking I'd change the wpa=2 to wpa=IEEE to configure for wpa2 (if I'm reading the file correctly).  But I don't want to lose overall access....
