Building pi-Stomp / Unable to log in - clean install 2.1
« on: July 16, 2023, 04:06:51 AM »
I have been trying a clean install of 2.1 after playing with 2.1 beta for a few months. Started with a new microUSB and raspberry Pi image. Despite checking passwords over and over again I am stuck at this point:

Last login: Sun Jul 16 18:12:47 on ttys000
tpearce@Tonys-iMac ~ % ssh pistomp@pistomp.local
The authenticity of host 'pistomp.local (2001:44b8:2a7:a800:74f:84d6:6e56:2f3c)' can't be established.

This host key is known by the following other names/addresses:
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])? yes
Warning: Permanently added 'pistomp.local' (ED25519) to the list of known hosts.
pistomp@pistomp.local's password:
Permission denied, please try again.

My router reports that pistomp is connected at but the following has the same result

tpearce@Tonys-iMac ~ % ssh pistomp@
pistomp@'s password:
Permission denied, please try again.

Am I doing something wrong?

Ah. I hadn't noticed the USB B port on the Ampero  Control...

What cable can I use to connect the Ampero Control 5 pin midi out to the Pi Stomp USB A?

It sounds as though the most effective way to add functionality is just to add an Ampero Hottone (4 extra switches) and then have the ability to turn on and off up to six effects in a patch in "stompbox" mode.

Using pi-Stomp / ? Default Midi Implementation
« on: June 23, 2023, 10:05:35 PM »
Now that I have a programmable midi controller to manage my Strymons I will turn my attention to controlling the pi-stomp. Is there a default midi implementation for simple commands e.g.

bypass on/oiff
bank up/down
patch selection or toggle on/off

does pi-stomp have a default midi channel or is it in omni?

midi learn clearly works for the native footswitches but the process would be different for an external controller. Should I just choose my own CC numbers and see if Pi Stomp can learn them?

cheers, Tony

Using pi-Stomp / midi and TouchOSC
« on: May 15, 2022, 03:46:00 AM »
I've been experimenting with midi and TouchOSC. I hace successfully managed to get faders on my ipad to control knobs on a pedal and have set up switches to turn pedals on and off. These changes are visible in the Constructor but not on the Pi-Stomp display. This behaviour is expected? - I think I read that the Pi-Stomp software itself does not respond to midi i.e no changes displayed.

I am currently viewing Constructor on my Mac and using TouchOSC on my iPad, both communicating with Pi-Stomp via the home network. Is there an easy way to now make TouchOSC on the iPad still send midi messages to Pi-Stomp when communicating via hotspot? if that makes sense....

Reviews of pi-Stomp / Extraordinary bit of kit
« on: May 01, 2022, 09:05:43 PM »
I am very impressed with my Pi-stomp. Only a couple of minor soldering issues during the build and now that I have found my TRS breakout cable I have spent the morning playing with both a stereo amp setup and a wet dry setup. Both incredibly easy to set up and both sound great!!

I'm now thinking of getting a midi footswitch controller.

I thought I would never have to use vi ever again....

Thanks, changing to 256 frames has made all the difference and the latency is not an issue.

Do I need admin permissions to modify /etc/jackdrc?. I tried to backup jackdrc to jackdrc_bkp to be safe but was told: "cp: cannot create regular file 'jackdrc_bkp': Permission denied'. I have played with linux in the past and this looks like a permission issue? If I save a pedalboard with the 256 setting will that be saved to the Pi-stomp for that pedalboard, permanently?

Apart from some minor soldering issues the kit and software are working. The CPU usage however swings between 55% and 100% every few seconds with only 2 effects added to a pedalboard, even when they are turned off and there is no signal being processed. Is there a setting I need to check or modify?

Building pi-Stomp / default_config.yml
« on: April 26, 2022, 10:43:54 PM »
I have built my core unit and the software all seems to be installed and working. Now to add the default 3 footswitches and 2 knobs!  I see that there is already a config file for this configuration in pi-stomp/pistomp/. Am I right in assuming that if this config file is renamed default.config, after backing up the current default.config, then all will be good for the hardware config?

Assuming yes to above: if I use the config file for 3 switches, 2 knobs and exp pedal before I wire in the exp jack will there will be a problem or should I just use the 3 switches and 2 knobs config until such time as I wire in the exp jack?
